On Sunday, June 2, 1963, at 6:30 a. m., Chris Harris found the body of eight-year-old Portia Bufford under his parked truck near North 5th Street and West Juneau Avenue in the city of Milwaukee. Deborah Ivy, a twelve-year-old playmate of Portia, told police that at about 8 p. m. on Saturday, June 1, 1963, while they were jumping rope at 1510 North 7th Street, located in the Hillside Housing Project, a black man came by and asked Portia if she knew where Charlie Brown lived. When Portia replied that she did, the man asked her to show him where and they left together. Deborah remembered that the mans hair was processed, long and black with a brown streak in it. That was the last time Deborah saw Portia.
